Won Ju Ri (67KG) Scores Clean & Jerk Record at 2024 IWF World Championships

The 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, ended on Dec. 15, 2024. The competition of the world’s best weightlifters showcased their immense strength and was landmarked by a bevy of world record performances across the men’s and women’s fields, with only six months until new weight categories take hold in June 2025.

Among those elite performances was North Korea’s Won Ju Ri in the Men’s 67KG class, who set a staggering new clean & jerk world record of 190 kilograms en route to the overall gold medal off a 336-kilogram total. Won Ju Ri’s victory-earning total was four kilograms more than silver medalist Pyol Pak, his fellow countryman.

The new clean & jerk world record can be seen in the video below, courtesy of the IWF’s Instagram page:

2024 IWF World Championships Results — Men’s 67KG

The results below are listed in kilograms as: snatch/clean & jerk — total.

  1. Won Ju Ri (PRK) — 146/190 — 336 | World Record Clean & Jerk
  2. Pyol Pak (PRK) — 150/182 — 332
  3. Yusuf Fehmi Genc (TUR) — 146/181 — 327

Won Ju Ri’s new record eclipsed the previous one he held, scored at the 2024 IWF World Cup in early April 2024 in Phuket, Thailand, by a single kilogram.

Upon approaching the barbell with a relaxed aura, Won Ju Ri squatted down and screwed in his feet before a couple bounces launched him into his open-mouth clean. His laid-back demeanor and comfort with the bar was on display as his bounciness continued while the bar sat upon his clavicle when he stood up.

His wrist wraps, knee sleeves, and lifting belt made him appear as a machine moving through the motions as he wasted no time split-jerking the barbell overhead and stepping into the final position to recieve the down command from the head judge.

He darted off the stage with a roar of triumph and a swift punch to the air to exert his success.
