Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Laura Horvath Made History at the 2024 Rogue Invitational

One of the great storylines from the 2024 Rogue Invitational was the four consecutive event win streaks that both Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Laura Horvath put together during the competition.

Toomey-Orr won the first four, followed by Horvath with a quartet of her own. Toomey-Orr then won the last of the nine events on the weekend and took the top podium spot.

In 2022, Horvath won Events 3 through 6, becoming the first person to win four events in a row at the Rogue Invitational.

4 in a Row at the Games

The accomplishment of winning four events in a row is even more rare at the CrossFit Games, only happening twice in the competition’s 18-year history. At the 2020 CrossFit Games, Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr each won six consecutive events.

What About 3 in a Row?

Going back in CrossFit Games history, five athletes have won three events in a row, all of whom have been crowned the Fittest on Earth.

The first to achieve this record was Kristan Clever.

At the 2013 CrossFit Games, two men crossed the finish line first three times in a row.

In 2014, Froning won the final three events for the second straight year, as he claimed his fourth and final CrossFit Games crown.

In 2023, Horvath won the “Olympic Total” in the final event on Saturday at the CrossFit Games. She then followed it up by winning the first two events Sunday morning on her way to winning the CrossFit Games.

Then there is Toomey-Orr. In addition to her six consecutive event wins in 2020, she has five(!) additional three-event win streaks at the CrossFit Games.

Multiple 4+ Event Winners

Going back in CrossFit Games history, only two competitors won four or more events: Kristan Clever won five events at the 2010 CrossFit Games, while Annie Thorisdottir won four.

Branching Out

If we look further than the CrossFit Games and the Rogue Invitational, we can find more cases where athletes have won four consecutive events.

A couple of recent athletes who achieved this are Seungyeon Choi, who took the first four events at the 2022 Far East Throwdown Semifinal. Then there’s Ty Jenkins, who won the first four events in the 16-17-year-old division at the 2023 CrossFit Games.

Unprecedented

It was hard not to be in awe of Toomey-Orr and Horvath’s performances at the 2024 Rogue Invitational. What we didn’t realize at the time was just how unprecedented this was.

In a field with the best athletes in the world, an athlete has only won four consecutive events once before. The 2010 CrossFit Games was the only time we saw two competitors each win at least four events in a competition.

At the 2024 Rogue Invitational, we saw something that may not happen ever again.
