Bret Hart trashes bodybuilders and the sport.
A video interview recently resurfaced of wrestling icon Bret Hart completely trashing bodybuilding. In the video the WWE legend said some pretty disparaging things about the endeavor of bodybuilding. It was in response to the World Bodybuilding Federation started by Vince McMahon 1991. The brand would be a major failure as McMahon hoped to establish a competitive bodybuilding organization to rival the IFBB.
Displeased by the whole ordeal, Bret Hart had some not so pleasant words to say about the bodybuilding and gave his uncut opinion in a 2014 interview. The wrestling icon had this to say about bodybuilders.
“Who likes bodybuilders? I mean, talk about zeroes in life. There’s nothing, I can’t say anything good about bodybuilders at all, what a total waste of your life, you know.”
Bret Hart would further describe his reasons for disliking the nature of bodybuilding as a whole.
“Yeah, just the vanity of just all day. You know, like, there’s nothing special about bodybuilders other than. They lift weights all day. It’s like a beauty pageant.”
Breat Hart claims he never was interested in bodybuilding. Whether that means personally or the overall endeavor is up for interpretation.
“I never had a fascination. I mean, I like a good physique in all but I mean, to the point of being obsessed and like bodybuilders and the dieting, and then you know the whole thing is like, who cares. I don’t see any ability or skill in it at all. Same with fashion models or runway models, who really gives a damn.”
The Reason
The interview gets even more personal. When he delves more into the failed WBF (World Bodybuilding Federation) started by WWE president at the time Vince McMahon, we start to understand Hart’s reasons for disliking the endeavor.
“Anyway, the point is, is that some bodybuilders are flying first class.
“It’s not right. These bodybuilders shouldn’t be up front and ahead of the wrestlers. That all these bodybuilders are making more money. They got signed to more money than any of the top wrestlers were making.”
It’s clear that Bret Hart is only looking at the surface of what bodybuilding truly is. There is certainly an aspect of vanity involved. But it would be a lie to say that people don’t envision themselves looking like a peak level human being. The way they get there could certainly be considered controversial. But ultimately if a person wants to build up their physique, that’s entirely up to them and shouldn’t be judged so harshly.
