Russel Orhii (83KG) Scores Unofficial IPF Squat and Total World Records at 2024 Powerlifting America Raw Nationals

Russel Orhii made a statement at the 2024 Powerlifting America (PA) Raw Nationals meet on March 14-16, 2024. Competing in the 83-kilogram class, Orhii went a perfect nine-for-nine in attempts to scorch the field with a gold-medal-worthy 860-kilogram raw total — an unofficial International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) world record.

The IPF raw world record in the 83KG class is Delaney Wallace‘s 842.5-kilogram total from the 2024 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. Orhii demolished that total by 17.5 kilograms. However, since Orhii’s total was not performed in an IPF-sanctioned international meet, it is an unofficial world record. But that’s not all!

Orhii’s 330-kilogram raw squat was 9.5 kilograms more than his current 320.5-kilogram IPF raw squat world record from the 2021 IPF World Classic Championships in Halmstad, Sweden. Check out Orhii’s 2024 PA Raw Nationals performance in the video below, courtesy of his Instagram page:

Despite winning his sixth national title, Orhii was not pleased with his performance. He said as much in the caption of his Instagram post:

This was probably one of my worst meets. I felt uncomfortable, rusty…my technique was all over the place.

Although discontent with how the meet felt, it was a stellar performance that scored a 20-kilogram personal best for Orhii. He added that this result further fueled his hunger for even better performances to come later in 2024.
