The 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, from Dec. 6-15, 2024, witnessed the shattering of more than a handful of world records. With only six months until new weight categories become the norm in June 2025, history was made in Bahrain.
In the Men’s 109KG class, Ruslan Nurudinov of Uzbekistan scored the overall gold with a 404-kilogram total. En route to his podium finish, Nurudinov achieved a new clean & jerk world record of 242 kilograms.

2024 IWF World Championships Results — Men’s 109KG
The results below are listed in kilograms as: snatch/clean & jerk — total.
- Ruslan Nurudinov (UZB) — 182/242 — 424 | World Record Clean & Jerk
- Dadash Dadashbayli (AZE) — 183/221 — 404
- Mehdi Karami (IRI) — 183/217 — 400
Nurudinov stepped up the barbell confidently, adjusted his grip while in a deep squat, screwed in his feet, and prepped himself for the lift with two deep breaths. Upon inhaling for a third time, his mouth remained agape as he launched into his ascent.
With his tongue sticking out, Nurudinov cleaned the barbell to the front rack position as his body bounced in contention with gravity. He stood the world record load up, readjusted his grip, and braced for impending history.
Nurudinov split-jerked the weight overhead without issue and smiled as he felt the weight stabilized and under control. His body was slow to move to the final standing pose for the judges, wobbling at odds with the joyous expression across his face.
Nurudinov ultimately moved his feet underneath him to display that the weight was no match for his strength. The record books were promptly flipped open, and Uzbekistan’s own was notched among the greats.
