Mitchell Hooper is the two-time Rogue Invitational champion. Hooper’s lack of weaknesses led to an exquisitely consistent performance, which included a win, four runner-up finishes, and a bronze finish in the six events contested in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Hooper took home the grand prize of $121,938.92 for scoring 54 of a possible 60 points. Hooper fended off 2018 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champion Hafthor Björnsson and reigning three-time WSM champion Tom Stoltman, who filled out the podium with 44 points each — Björnsson ranked as the runner-up for securing two event wins to Stoltman’s one.

Hooper did what he aimed to do in event one — the max deadlift. He secured second-place points behind Björnsson, who remains arguably the best heavy deadlifter on the planet.
In the second event, Hooper separated himself from Björnsson by claiming his second runner-up finish while Björnsson ranked last. This was the most significant blunder of Björnsson’s competition, which gave Hooper the runway needed to maintain the top position on the leaderboard.
Hooper and Björnsson leveraged having the leader’s advantage in event three, knowing the time to beat by competing last in the event. Tom Stoltman is known as the “King of the Stones,” but since Hooper and Björnsson knew Stoltman’s time was the one to beat, they went for broke and finished as the top two in the event.
Stoltman was not interested in being silenced on his home turf and won event four. Björnsson and Hooper finished second and third, respectively — Hooper’s worst finish of the weekend.
Hooper scored his lone event win in the Yoke Escalator event, which was expected. If Stoltman is the “King of the Stones,” then it might be time for Hooper to be donned the “Monarch of the Yoke.”
Heading into the final event of the weekend, Hooper’s lead was such that only a cataclysmic blunder could dethrone him. The opposite happened as he was one of only two athletes to lift all four implements overhead — the other was event winner Luke Stoltman.
