What is Sulforaphane?

Sulforaphane is a potent natural compound that can be used in bodybuilding for several reasons. It is intriguing on several levels, to say the least. What is it? It is a compound naturally found in vegetables like brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower. These foods are high in sulforaphane. Why It Matters

In my opinion, if you are trying to increase muscle mass and you don’t eat a boatload of vegetables, you’re not doing yourself any favors. Generally speaking, vegetables have so many bodybuilding benefits it is not even funny. However, most people really don’t relate vegetables to a tool to increase muscle mass. However, this is a mistake, and this could be one reason why gaining muscle mass for most people is difficult, so why not give yourself every possible edge that you can? That edge comes by the name of Sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is naturally occurring in some vegetables, and this will provide you with that edge.  

The Case For Eating More Vegetables, and not just because your mom told you so.

Sulforaphane has been the subject of many research studies. I have put together some of them below, which conclude that this compound is an excellent bodybuilding tool.  

More Muscle Cells

Sulforaphane can possibly provide the body’s muscle tissue with more stem cells, which may help increase muscle mass and recovery time.  

Anti-catabolic

Did you know why anabolic steroids work so well? Not so much because one is anabolic, but because one is 24/7 anti-catabolic. Catabolic hormones are much more potent than anabolic hormones. Think about it? How quickly does it take you to lose muscle mass if you are sick or injured? Less than a week? Yup. Now how long does it take to build up that muscle mass again? MONTHS!!!

Being anti-catabolic is enormous. And that is the second reason I love Sulforaphane so much; It is a natural anti-catabolic compound.

Lowers Myostatin

The last reason, and one that I have plenty of experience on, is the reduction of myostatin. About eight years ago or so, I helped create an egg powder with naturally high levels of follistatin, which reduces myostatin. It is now sold as a dietary supplement called Yolked. Well, guess what also happens to lower myostatin levels in the body possibly? You guessed it. Sulforaphane! (Maybe a good idea to STACK both!!)

Fruits and vegetables should be consumed by everyone looking to increase muscle mass. I have to admit, I’m not a fan of vegetables, but I know I need to eat them. Most of the time, I rely on my wife to cook them up so that they taste good. My favorites are Brussels sprouts, string beans, spinach, and recently I just got into eating arugula on my pizza, then that turned into me eating arugula salads.
