Inderraj Singh-Dhillon (120KG) Raw Deadlifts 9 kilograms Over IPF World Record

120-kilogram powerlifter Inderraj Singh Dhillon made a name for himself at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) 2023 Classic World Championships (CWC) in Malta when he broke the deadlift world record via a 386-kilogram (851-pound) pull. It earned him the overall bronze medal.

In the months since Dhillon last competed, his deadlift training seems to have gone into overdrive. On November 20, Dhillon shared a training update to his Instagram page wherein he deadlifted a gargantuan 395 kilograms (871 pounds) — nine kilograms (20 pounds) more than his current IPF world record. Check out the lift below:

Dhillon approached the platform, pounding on his chest. He shook out his arms and spread them wide while stretching tall. He bent to the barbell, gripped, and pulled. The lift appeared smooth, showing no sign of a sticking point.

After his huge deadlift single, Dhillon performed back-off sets at a weight that would be a respectable top single for many. He pulled 363 kilograms (800 pounds) for a fast double.

Dhillon is currently training for the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) 2023 European Classic Championships (ECC), which will be held in Tartu, Estonia, from Dec. 4-9, 2023. In 2022, Dhillon finished in fourth place overall. In 2023, he is ranked second on nominated totals. Dhillon will face relative newcomer Jonah Wiendieck of Germany, who made a great impression at the 2023 IPF Junior World Championships, missing out on the world title by a single kilogram.

Wiendick has a huge bench press. He currently holds the IPF Junior world record of 250.5 kilograms (552 pounds). However, the deadlifter always has the advantage, and Dhillon will get to select the exact number needed to win. Usually, lifters can only increase the weight on the bar by increments of 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds), but if the attempt is a world record, lifters have the option of adding half a kilogram (one pound).

Dhillon is widely expected to extend his deadlift world record at the 2023 EFP ECC. If the fight for the European title is as close as expected, Dhillon might not get the opportunity to load to his heart’s desire. Regardless, the matchup promises to be an epic battle. The competition will be available to watch live for free on the EPF YouTube channel.
