Inderraj Singh Dhillon (120KG) Deadlifts 380-Kilogram Raw Double

120-kilogram powerlifter Inderraj Singh Dhillon holds the distinction of the biggest raw deadlift in British Powerlifting (BP) history. BP is the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) affiliate in the UK with roots in the beginning of the sport.

Dhillon moved into the British top spot at the 2023 IPF Classic World Championships (CWC) in Malta, deadlifting an IPF raw world record of 386 kilograms (851 pounds) to take the deadlift gold medal and third place overall.

Since then, Dhillon has been hard at work, often in his garage gym, honing that huge deadlift to perfection. On Oct. 24, 2023, Dhillon shared a training update on his Instagram page in which he deadlifted a mammoth 380 kilograms (838 pounds) raw for a double. Check it out below:

Dhillon set up in a conventional stance, with his feet approximately hip-width apart. He stretched tall and took a deep breath, extending his arms out to the side before taking the bar in a mixed grip, with his right hand pronated and left supinated (over and under). This type of grip prevents the bar from rolling in the palm of the hands but isn’t as painful or as difficult to master as the hook grip, in which the thumb is pinned by the first couple of fingers.

Dhillon wasted no time at the bottom of the lift, dropping his hips and immediately starting the pull. The barbell visibly bent as 380 kilograms (838 pounds) left the platform at speed, and the bar flew to lockout.

After a brief hold at the top, Dhillon lowered the bar to the floor and dropped his hips to pull again. It moved slower than his first, but not by much. In his caption, Dhillon rated the set as RPE 8.5, and he certainly looked comfortable throughout. The entire set, from setup to completion, took less than 10 seconds and raised the question of what his current one-rep-max is.

In a later video, Dhillon compared this set side by side with a 370-kilogram (816-pound) double he had performed a week earlier. The two videos are almost perfectly synchronized, showing an impressive consistency of technique, even with increased weight. Take a look:

A lifelong vegetarian, Dhillon semi-jokingly credits paneer, a type of non-aged cheese popular in India, for his deadlift prowess. Whatever is responsible, extending his deadlift world record seems to be on the cards.

Dhillon is currently training for the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) European Classic Championships, which will be held in Tartu, Estonia, on Dec. 4-9, 2023. The event will be live-streamed on the EPF YouTube channel, and the 120-kilogram class looks like one to watch.
