For more than 13 years, Columbia native and Irmo High graduate Kristin Nunn-Miles has been a National Association of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer (NASM CPT) based out of South Carolina Barbell on Two Notch Road. Nunn-Miles is also a coach and member of the advisory board at the Tsunami Bar Training Center in West Columbia.
But her claim to fame is as a pro athlete in the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness, where she has been competing since 2008 with numerous Top 5 placings.
EAT: I have always enjoyed Jake’s on Devine; I love the patio and taking my dogs to Yappy Hour. They have an amazing brunch menu and the sweet potato hummus is to die for. The food at The Whig is delicious, too. They change their menu a lot so there’s always something new to try.
PLAY: I love the water so paddle boarding on Lake Murray is a favorite activity. I also recently started attending classes at barre3. The classes involve high intensity with a low impact exercise based on yoga and Pilates principles, and it makes me sweat. I also love to grab a friend and head to the Riverwalk for some sightseeing while we exercise.
DRINK: I am a coffee lover and a Black Iced Americano from Loveland Coffee in Irmo is my first choice but when I’m in a hurry I make a trip through Starbucks because my English Bulldog, Chloe, loves their pup cups.
SEE: I like to attend bodybuilding and fitness competitions when I am not participating in them. My husband and a couple of my clients are actually competing in a show here in Columbia on June 25 at the Koger Center called the IFBB/NPC SC Grand Prix Pro/Am, which will be a lot of fun. This is an inaugural event and we will have professional athletes from around the world coming to showcase their hard work along with local amateurs.
LISTEN: I’m a rocker at heart so attending concerts is a favorite of mine whether it’s at the Colonial Life Arena, The Township or driving to the (Charlotte Metro Credit Union) Amphitheater in Charlotte. We’re lucky to be so centrally located to so many great venues.
