Anatolii Novopismennyi (105KG) Sets IPF Raw Squat World Record of 363 Kilograms at 2024 Sheffield Championships

The 2024 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships on Feb. 10, 2024, in Sheffield, England, was a who’s who of the world’s best powerlifters clashing at the peak of their games. Of the 24 athletes (12 male, 12 female) who competed, 14 of them eclipsed the IPF raw total world records in their respective weight classes.

Several of the athletes not among those 14 who broke total world records rewrote the history books with record-breaking lifts along the way. One of those was Ukraine’s Anatolii Novopismennyi, competing in the Men’s 105-kilogram class.

Novopismennyi held the IPF raw squat world record of 362.5 kilograms entering the 2024 Sheffield and successfully chipped it to 363 kilograms to secure £5,000 in bonus prize money.

The 2024 Sheffield competition ranked athletes across different weight classes based on the percentage of their respective class’s IPF total world record. In the men’s division, three of the 12 athletes broke total world records — Gustav Hedlund, Jonathan Cayco, and Delaney Wallace.

Novopismennyi’s 925.5-kilogram total was 14.5 kilograms shy of the current IPF raw total world record of 940 kilograms, which Novopismennyi holds, thanks to his performance at the 2023 IPF World Classic Championships in Malta. Had Novopismennyi locked out his final deadlift, he would have eclipsed the world record total by half a kilogram.

According to Open Powerlifting, Novopismennyi’s new IPF squat world record does not crack the top three heaviest deadlifts ever recorded in the 105-kilogram class. However, it is the heaviest in IPF-sanctioned competition. The heaviest raw squat in the 105-kilogram class belongs to Joe Sullivan, who scored a 386-kilogram squat at the 2023 World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) Battle of the Yard 8.
