Sonita Muluh (+84KG) Raw Squats 7 Kilograms Over All-Time Drug Tested World Record
The 2025 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships set for Jan. 26, 2025, in Sheffield, England, features Sonita Muluh on its women’s roster. While that is significant, as Muluh holds the all-time world record raw squat at 311 kilograms from the 2024 World Classic Powerlifting Championships, her presence in Sheffield is even more highlighted now.
On Dec. 5, 2024, Muluh posted a video on her Instagram page wherein she squatted 318 kilograms raw in a drug-tested competition. Though unofficial since it was not performed in a sanctioned international contest, the notion that Muluh can eclipse her current world record by seven kilograms is a staggering feat. (@sonita_ml)Muluh wrote in the caption of her post, “13 kilograms more than I have ever done in the gym and seven kilograms above my all-time world record from June 23, 2024, tested and untested at 311 kilograms. I don’t know what to expect. 7.5 weeks to make this cleaner, smother, and faster and make history AGAIN IN SHEFFIELD.”
Just under two months away, Muluh is already calling her shot that a new all-time raw world record deadlift will be loaded onto the barbell. It’s a reasonable call and should be the expectation given that Muluh’s current world record is 20 kilograms more than the next closest competitor’s heaviest ever raw squat — Merrylynn Etelei’s 291-kilogram lift — and Muluh acknowledged that she’s hitting personal bests in competition with time to spare.
As Muluh competes in the superheavyweight category, she will not have to contend with cutting weight to achieve a particular weight class restriction. Therefore, as the Sheffield approaches, we shouldn’t ask if Muluh will break her all-time squat world record, but by how much.
