2025 TYR Wodapalooza Day 4 Recap: Back-and-Forth Battles Under the Miami Sun

Sunday dawned warm and sunny with a slight breeze, and the longest workout of the weekend kicked off the final day of the team competition at the 2025 TYR WZA Miami.

The teams were reseeded as the women entered the TYR Arena to get the action started. Here’s what went down.

Event 4: Race To The Top

For Time:

1 up to 10 reps of:

IGF-1 lr3
  • rope climbs
  • box jump overs, 36/30-inches, all 3 athletes, alternating
  • cleans, 255 / 175 pounds

Time Cap: 16 minutes

The Women

With the 1-up-to-10 rep scheme, athletes can not go too hard too early if they want a chance at a solid time — you are only halfway through the workout once you complete the round of seven.

  • Blacklisted’s Dawgs (Brooke Thomas, Amanda Fischer, and Madison Jefferson) came out strong in the first heat, with Fischer flying solo on the barbell the entire way, taking the heat win at 14:46.

As the event progressed, it became apparent that the keys to success were efficient transitions, especially early on, and having at least one team member who could do touch-and-go cleans as the reps increased.

  • Both Mayhem Baywatch (Zoe Jones, Molly McGrandy, and Stevie Dellinger) and Team Kriger (Ragnhild Seim, Oda Lundekvam, and Vår Thurmann-Moe) executed this plan to the T in the third heat, battling it out on the final 10 cleans into a photo finish.

The final heat brought out some of the heavy lifters, with Swedish House Mafia (Lena Richter, Emelie Lundberg, and Emma Tall) and Team NUSA (Astrid Tind, Mia Furu, Frederikke Mollerup) fighting for the event win.

  • Team NUSA saved enough in the tank for the final round of cleans, with Tind holding on for a big chunk of reps. They won the event, and Tind’s coming-out party this weekend is more than solidified.

When asked about transitioning from individual to team competition by sideline reporter Bella Martin, Tind replied:

  • “I think that was an easy transition as I’m used to being on a team, so this is more my jam. I really enjoyed it,” she said.

The Men

The men learned by watching the women complete Event 4, as the quickest teams’ transitions looked crisp.

  • In the first heat, it was Team Wod9 (Adam McAdams, Hayden Jaco, and Tim DeAraujo) and the One Minute Men (Owen Bernstein, Mateus Ferro, and Zachary Gibbon) battling until the end, with proficiency on the heavy barbell integral to their success.

Team Tonka X Comradery, led by Nick Mathew donning his signature crop top, annihilated the heavy cleans, with he and Brandon Schipper splitting the final 10 reps to snag the new time to beat in the third heat (Greek athlete Alex Kotoulas is the team’s third member).

The teams in the final heat did a fantastic job playing to the strength of their team members, with athletes like Gui Malheiros, Jack Farlow, and Chandler Smith doing most, if not all, of the cleans.

  • Near the end of the event, it became a four-horse race between the PJ’s (Jeff Adler, Pat Vellner, and Jayson Hopper), the Sculpted Scholars (Farlow, Benoît Boulanger, and Tudor Magda), Mayhem Tres Leches (Malheiros, Jorge Fernandez, and Saxon Panchik), and The Boys (Smith, Noah Ohlsen, and Travis Mayer).

Mayhem Tres Leches got to the bar first in the final round and snuck out the win over the PJs.

Event 4 Results

  1. Team NUSA (12:53.72) | Mayhem Tres Leches (11:24.75)
  2. Swedish House Mafia (12:00.39) | PJ’s (11:28.45)
  3. Team XND (12:43.89) | Sculpted Scholars (11:29.63)

Event 5: 3334

The teams headed to the Reign Sandbox to take on Event 5.

3-3-3-4 Minute Rounds

Each round buy-in:

  • At same time – 60 VELITES heavy dubs | 500-meter/400-meter Assault row | 400-meter Assault run

With the remaining time complete:

  • 60 synchro single-arm dumbbell thrusters, 70/50 pounds
  • 40 synchro single-arm dumbbell snatches, 70/50 pounds
  • 20 synchro single-arm devil’s press + thruster, 70/50 pounds

Time Cap: 13 minutes

The Women

After Event 4, the ladies walked into the Reign Sandbox with the leaderboard all jumbled.

None of the teams in the first heat finished the workout, with Team Five Guys clocking eight reps in the final set of 20 to leave the competition floor with the score to beat.

  • The leaderboard will be reseeded heading into the final event, so teams went especially hard in the sand.

British Frog Squad (Lucy Campbell, Jennifer Muir, and Tayla Howe) and Tres Leches (Jessi Smith, Aimee Cringle, and Anikha Greer) completed their final buy-ins first, putting them slightly ahead and getting them to the devil’s presses and thrusters first.

No team finished the workout, and it could be a winner-take-all all heading into the final event.

The Men

With only two heats in this event, there was a lot of racing. The time cap was aggressive, with only one team – Team GOWOD (Justin Medeiros, Jayson Hopper, and Willy Georges)

 – completing the event.

  • The Maritime Boyz and Make America Fit again battled for the most reps in the first heat.

As the final heat began, The Boys and Tres Leches entered the Reign Sandbox tied in points, and only 20 points separated the top five teams.

  • Team GOWOD was the first team to the devil’s press + thrusters, managing to get a rep in the final three-minute time domain. They put the pedal down in the first interval and were the only team to finish the event.

Utilizing teamwork, Justin Medeiros explained to Bella Martin how they finished the event:

  • “We just really played to each other’s strengths…man it felt really good to be the only team to step on that finish line,” he said

Event 5 Results

  1. British Frog Squad (cap+386) | Team GOWOD (12:56.54)
  2. Tres Leches (cap+385) | The Boys (cap+392)
  3. Reebok Crew (cap+385) | PJ’s (cap+392)

Event 6: The Trio Triplet

It’s a close fight for the podium as the women took the floor.

Relyte Salt Baes had a 12-point lead over Swedish House Mafia, with Yeti Outkasts and Team NUSA close behind.

For Time:

  • 150 ping-pong wall balls, 30/20 pounds
  • 75 synchro toes-to-bar, 2 athletes
  • 150-foot worm lunge

Time Cap: 12 minutes

The Women

This event was all about teamwork with crisp transitions and execution during the wall balls and toes to bar, setting up teams with a slight lead as they went into the worm lunge.

  • It was an exciting race to the finish in the third heat, with three teams going step for step on the lunges — the British Frog Squad came away with the heat win.

With 21 points separating first from fourth place, the final heat could come down to seconds.

  • Team Kriger got to the rig first, but it was Relyte Salt Baes who picked up the worm first.

Yeti Outkasts quickly took the lead on the lunges, ultimately taking the event win, and Team NUSA did everything they could to make a run at the podium, finishing second in the heat.

The Men

Like the ladies, the guys had zero issues with the wall balls, with most teams easily completing 150 as a team unbroken.

Most teams chose to do sets of ten on the toes to bar before subbing in a teammate.

  • In the third heat, CrossFit 1124 built a lead during the lunge, and after a fancy shoulder switch at the turnaround point, they faltered slightly but still pulled out a heat win.

With several teams in earlier heats posting fast times, there could be some teams playing spoiler for the podium, with first through fourth place only separated by 12 points heading into the final heat.

  • Mayhem Tres Leches jumped up on the pull-up bar first, but the cycle rate of Team GOWOD allowed them to gain some ground. However, it came down to a race at the end, with teams lunging quickly across the floor.

Mayhem Tres Leches, Team GOWOD, and The Boys were step-for-step until a costly no-rep caused the Mayhem team to drop the worm.

The team history of The Boys came into play as they took advantage and pulled out the event win.

Chandler Smith summed up his feelings in a post-event interview:

  • “No secret, we’re getting old…I never would have imagined back then, when I was a Lieutenant in the Army, that I would still be competing now or that I would still be competitive, or I would have the chance to make memories with dudes as good as these folks in front of a crowd as good as this.”

Event 6 Results

  1. The Boys (8:16.08) | Yeti Outkasts (8:43.53)
  2. Mayhem Tres Leches (8:22.66) | Team Nusa (8:46.84)
  3. Team GOWOD (8:24.41) | Team Nubymi (8:56.78)
